The annual retreat for Principals of Diocesan Schools was held on 25st May 2005 at Annunciation Church , Tsuen Wan. A total of 120 principals attended. The theme of the retreat was “The Year of the Eucharist”. The day’s programme included sermons, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Benediction, sharing and Eucharistic Celebration.
Father D. Doimo, Regional Superior of the PIME Fathers, was the Retreat Master. He started the retreat by asking participants to make good use of the time for prayer and reflection. It was an opportunity for principals to forget for the time being their many tasks and worries. It was only by getting closer to God that they would get inner peace and renewed strength.
Father Doimo pointed out that the word “Eucharist” meant thanksgiving. The “Year of the Eucharist” was also the year to show our gratitude and appreciation to God for everything He had created and given to us. Since the whole universe and all our abilities come from God, we should always remember to thank Him. Holy Communion is the core of Eucharistic Celebration. We receive the Body of Christ to be in union with Christ and with each other. Every Sunday is an important and special day for all the faithful. We join together to celebrate with joy and thanksgiving the resurrection of Christ.
Father Doimo cited the example of the story of Emmaus. The two disciples listened to Jesus’ explanation of Scripture and recognized the Lord in the breaking of bread. Christians should always reflect on the Eucharist as an ineffable “Mystery of Faith” and in so doing, they would be enriched with abundant spiritual fruit. The two sermons were assisted with beautiful and lively powerpoint presentation. There were also Scripture reading and hymn singing.
As the highlight of the day, the principals gathered in the Church for the Eucharistic Celebration. Father Doimo reminded them that as heads of the schools they were to serve like humble servants. It was also their responsibility to instill among students a sense of gratitude and appreciation of God and everything that came from Him. The retreat ended with participants acquiring deeper knowledge and better understanding of the Eucharist.
