資訊科技教學交流會
– 視像教學
Teaching Experience Sharing Seminar:
The Use of Information Technology in
Remote Visual Teaching and Learning

Striving to enhance teachers’ effectiveness in
using Information Technology in teaching, the Central Management Committee for
Diocesan Schools held an experience-sharing seminar at St. Francis of
Assisi
’s
English
Primary School
on 19th May 2007. More than 150 secondary and primary school
teachers participated in the event.
The seminar commenced with an opening prayer by Rev. Stephen Tam, Parish
Priest of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. He reminded teachers to alert their
students to the ethical issues and make good use of learning resources while
incorporating IT into their daily teaching. His speech was then followed by a
welcome address delivered by Ms. Margaret Lam, Convenor of the IT Development
Committee. Apart from introducing the committee members, the future development
and goal of the committee’s service, she quoted the message of Pope John Paul
II conveyed in the 36th World Communications Day, “The Internet
offers extensive knowledge, but it does not teach values; and when values are
disregarded, humanity is demeaned and man easily loses sight of his transcendent
dignity.” Ms. Lam not only expressed her concern about the necessity of
ethical norms for students to acquire knowledge through information technology,
she also showed her appreciation of teachers’ effort in self-improvement. She
hoped that teachers would be able to handle work-related stress by using IT to
enhance teaching and learning effectiveness.
After her speech, Mr. Yuk Wai Yuen,
Principal of Leung Shek Chee College, introduced the guest speaker Pr. Wong
Po Choi, Professor of the Department of Information Engineering of Chinese
University of
Hong Kong
. Mr. Yuk thanked the guest speaker, an experienced and honored IT
professional, for his presence and contribution in promoting IT education. Then,
Rev. Stephen Tam proceeded to present souvenirs to Mr. Leung Wai Choi, Principal
of St. Francis of Assisi’s English Primary School, the guest speaker Mr. Wong
Po Choi, the sharing session speakers Mr. Hui Siu Shun, IT teacher of Tai Kok
Tsui Catholic Primary School, Mr. Shum Ming Fai, IT teacher of Yu Chun
Keung Memorial College No. 2, Mr. Lee Sai Wah, Vice Principal of Shak Chung Shan
Memorial Catholic Primary School, Ms. Li Yuet Sheung, Principal of St. James
Catholic Kindergarten for their precious sharing. Finally, Ms. Lam presented a
souvenir to Rev. Stephen Tam for his support of the seminar.
The first session of the seminar was
demonstrated by Pr. Wong Po Choi. Via video-conferencing, Pr. Wong collaborated
with the teachers of Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wha San Secondary School and
introduced the topic of “Visual teaching: Broadening Learning Horizons &
Raising Learning Ability” in a lively manner. Pr. Wong also said the remote
learning activity plan “Visual China”, sponsored by Quality Education Fund,
had not only broadened students’ horizons but had also boosted their language
ability through remote culture exchanges with the mainland and overseas schools.
Teachers on the mainland and overseas could also exchange their teaching
experiences through video-conferencing. By adopting advanced technology of
video-conferencing, many schools in
Hong Kong
, on the mainland and overseas could organize diversified teaching activities
for teachers and students.
The second session was “Group Sharing”. Mr. Hui Siu Shun, IT
teacher of
Tai
Kok
Tsui
Catholic
Primary School
, shared the topic by demonstrating that the “Class Web Interactive
Platform” provided their teachers and students with more opportunities to
communicate. With whole-school participation, teachers and students’
motivation in using IT could increase. Students could upload their photos onto
the School’s website on their own, which could not only lessen teachers’
burdens, but also enhance their sense of belonging to their school. After Mr.
Hui’s sharing, Mr. Shum
Ming Fai, IT teacher of Yu Chun Keung Memorial College No. 2,
shared his experience in “Constructing Online Learning Community”. Mr. Shum
believed that students could learn how to construct an interactive learning
process by participating in discussions in online learning communities. Taking
part in the online discussions not only enabled students to learn new knowledge,
but could also cultivate their abilities in thinking and expression, which could
foster communication between teachers and students.
The
last sharing session was delivered by Ms. Lee Sai Wah,
Vice Principal of Shak Chung Shan Memorial Catholic Primary School on
the topic of “
3C
Media &
3G
General Studies”. She demonstrated how increased interactions using
3G
mobile phones boosted learning motivation and teaching effectiveness.
At the end of the sessions, Ms. Li Yuet
Sheung, Principal of St. James Catholic Kindergarten, delivered a vote of thanks
and a concluding speech. She expressed her gratitude towards Pr. Wong and the
guest speakers for their lively demonstrations. She also thanked Mr. Leung Wai
Choi, Principal of St. Francis of
Assisi
’s
English
Primary School
, for providing the venue and manpower for the seminar. The seminar came to a
close with a prayer led by Ms. Li.
