An experience sharing session for School Supervisors & Managers (clergy) of Diocesan Schools was held on 26th November 2003 (Wednesday) from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., including a talk, discussion and lunch.  Bishop Joseph Zen, Fr. Dominic Chan V.G. and more than thirty Supervisors and Managers attended the function.

The Session began with a prayer led by Fr. Dominic Chan .V. G. then followed by the opening address by Miss Alice Woo, the Episcopal Delegate for Education.  Miss Woo thanked all the Supervisors and Managers for their immense contribution in the running of Diocesan Schools in spite of their heavy Parish workload.

In the talk given by the guest speaker, Mr. Lester Huang, the background of the Education (Amendment) Bill 2002 was explicitly explained.  Mr. Huang briefed in detail the setting up & function of the proposed Incorporated Management Committee (IMC).

The second part of the Session was for experience sharing and discussion.  Bishop Joseph Zen expressed his worries whether the future IMC would really function effectively.  Under the present system of management, the Catholic Diocese, throughout all these years, has been playing a significant role in contributing to the education in Hong Kong   The Bishop was in favour of the recommendation of the No 7 Education Commission Report about setting up the School Executive Committee under the School Management Committee.  The Supervisors and Managers voiced their opinions about strengthening the specific Catholic characteristics in Diocesan Schools and instilling Catholic values in teachers and students.  They also discussed the role of the school Principal, the effective deployment of school resources and the commitment of the Diocese to serve the development of education in Hong Kong.
