An experience sharing session for School Managers of non-education sector was held by the Central Management Committee for Diocesan Schools on 26th July 2003. Members of the Committee included Miss Alice Woo the Episcopal Delegate for Education, Mr. Peter Chan and Miss Jessie Ho, Assistants to the Episcopal Delegate, Mr. Li Quing Fai, Mr. Peter Lau, Mr. William Yip and Ms Mary Chan.  Seventeen School Managers attended this session.

Miss Alice Woo began the session with an opening prayer and a vote of thanks to School Managers who had kindly accepted the Bishop¡¦s invitation to offer their professional expertise serving Diocesan Schools. To enhance the Managers¡¦ understanding of Catholic Education in Hong Kong, Mr. Li Quing Fai introduced to them the Structural Organization for the Promotion of Catholic Education, and also the Sponsoring Bodies of Catholic Schools in Hong Kong.  Mr. Peter Lau expounded on the Vision and Mission of Catholic Education.  Mr. William Yip presented the roles and responsibilities of School Managers of Diocesan Schools, bringing to light the future legislation of Incorporated Management Committee. After these presentations, the School Managers then enthusiastically engaged in discussion and expressed their genuine concern and worries about the forthcoming Incorporated Management Committee. As all agreed it was the mission of Catholic schools to promote Christ¡¦s teaching of love and service and invaluable essence of Chinese culture, therefore it was significant that School Management Committees of Catholic schools should be in strong support of this direction. The Managers proposed that professionals, parents and alumni sharing the same vision and mission should be invited to join as School Managers of the Sponsoring Body or be encouraged to participate in the election as School Managers respectively. More sharing among School Managers to build up and strengthen the common consensus on school mission would be essential. To enable Diocesan School Principals and middle managers to implement the Catholic mission, staff development programmes on promotion of catholic education should be provided for them. The participants further opined that the constitution for Incorporated Management Committee in line with Catholic vision and mission could be pro-actively drafted by Catholic Diocese for Education and Manpower Bureau¡¦s adoption before its release of sample constitution. To all these constructive suggestions, the Central Management Committee agreed to give favourable consideration. With regard to the concern about the legal liabilities and insurance policy for School Managers, Miss Woo explained the issue had been followed up by Fr. E. Khong, the Procurator.  The sharing session then ended with a happy lunch for all participants.
